Some of the best libraries can sometimes be the free ones! I tend to come across them all the time and thought I should stop being greedy and start sharing them! :P So feel free to post your info' and links to free kontakt libs you have found!

Every now and then I'll do a large list sweep of all our links put together in a single post, making it easy for someone to come in and see everything at once. But it would be handy if you quickly summed up the instrument like I've done with the example below.

Audio Imperia is a resource I've used a lot in my tracks recently, it's also great for layering. They have some great affordable libraries but even their free ones are well worth the grab. The main one to look at is this.

Thanks sorohanro! I was coming across so many of them, I thought it was time to let others enjoy them too!

Blake Robinson is a composer, who has made stunning tracks such as 'Armies, Dragons and Rings'. The trailer music heard for the Hobbit 3 trailer. He released a fantastic Cello Library which Embertone later developed into a full paid lib. However, the first iteration can still be downloaded for free, and is superb!

I use it...A lot!

Of course. You'll never get a registered lib for free. You need full kontakt, which is why the title doesn't say "free kontakt player library".

I only have kontakt player.
Ive never seen free lib for it. There must be some restrictions when someone creates a lib.

Essentially, ANYONE can make INDIVIDUAL .NKI INSTRUMENTS which can be used in the full version of KONTAKT.
Word on the street is, you pay money to have that converted into a formal KONTAKT LIBRARY which can be used in either version and appears in the library tab.

That's why no one makes FREE things for the Player, because it's economically illogical. NI's reason for doing this, however, IS entirely logical- to fuel sales for their sampler. Noting that Kontakt can be had for $200 at various sales throughout the year, it is but a small price to pay for opening the door to the products of literally hundreds of developers and their products, both free and paid.

This distinction between "bundles of instruments" and "libraries", and the fact that "sample library" and "virtual instrument" are used somewhat interchangeably, leads to a lot of confusion. Essentially, this thread is about Kontakt instruments, not libraries.

Yeah, there have been some amazing released that have turned commercial which were great pick ups, unfortunately the free ones get pulled. Blakus Cello 1.6/1.7 was amazing, then Embertone took it further with a paid release. I still use the Blakus one and although it doesn't have the flexibility as Embertones release the the raw tone is incredible. The other that came to mind was Clara by Stefano Maccarelli. Another incredible and huge female vocalist library which was eventually made commercial by ZeroG and renamed to Ethera. The initial release was jammed packed with content, but sadly no longer exists. Both are permanently loaded in my template, which is why it's important to jump onto these free libs asap. As they'll get pulled, and some could go full paid product.

PhilHarmonic Orchestra have good sounding samples of pretty much every orchestral instrument:

Only problem is that they are just samples and not an actual sample instrument, so you have to create a shell for them.
I have shells for the Cello, Viola, French Horn and Trumpet if anyone wants them. They sound amazing considering that they are free

^^ I think at least part of that E-MU set has to be in violation of copyright; "Sound Modules" typically means ROMpler, and samples on ROM are virtually always copyrighted.

That being said E-MU isn't really around anymore, although I know there's someone who has all their assets now and is selling them as .sfz's I think.
