Reviews for "Hikouki II"

solid game

The game play was smooth. But I agree with the lack of sound. I didn't hear anything when attacking the larger ships. I also didn't hear anything that made me realize my ship had been hit, other than a momentary fade. My volume is turned up fine, thank you.

It does have that definite feel of an 80's space game, and while the levels don't really get harder, the bosses certainly do.

All in all a good game.

ViolentAJ responds:

Thanks.

nice game

its a nice game but i got a powerup for the main weapon and it just dissapeared i want hit or anything i had full health just wondering if its a bug

ViolentAJ responds:

Really? That shouldn't have happened. Very strange indeed.

When you get hit for a total of 20 points of damage without picking up a repair or primary weapon powerup (or after a collision) then your weapon level will decrease by one (unless your weapon power level is 0, where it'll stay 0).

its an okay game

lol best game over sound ever.

ViolentAJ responds:

Glad someone appreciated that hehe.

Some suggestions:

It feels very incomplete, and here's why:
When you shoot things that take more than one shot to kill, there's no indication that anything has happened. A smaller explosion or even a white flash of the enemy accompanied by a sound effect will make things seem more dynamic and less tedious, like when Sonic the Hedgehog jumps on Dr. Robotnik and his machine flashes and there's that sound like breaking blocks. It might not seem like much, but getting a response out of the game is important.
I think it'd be cool if the ship tilted or something when it went from side to side, but I realize that that might not be the kind of ship you had in mind. Still, a little animation on the ship would make the game seem more immersive.
All in all, there's nothing about this game that really makes it stand out from the crowd in a positive light. Also, I just read that there are selectable characters *goes back to check* Ooo, it's cool that you included more maneuverable ships: to begin with I just figured you'd be able to upgrade the maneuverability of Dalton's ship. ^.^;; But, man...the girl's ship is incredibly weak.
I hope you keep these suggestions in mind if you make another game like this: I think they'd help everything feel more action-packed.

ViolentAJ responds:

A sound plays when you hit larger enemies. You might need to turn up your speakers. I'm not the best artist, and I do not have the time or funds to hire an artist. I like to do everything myself (except for music/sound effects). It makes things easier since I do not have to pay anyone and I am a full-time student.

Mitsuki is weaker than the other two characters (although you can upgrade her weapons just like the other two, of course). She is the fastest of the three though, and it all comes down to your play style.

Decent

t was kind of boring, easy, and the game could all in all use a little speed boost to it.

ViolentAJ responds:

The sequel will certainly be faster-paced, will have (sligtly) better graphics, and will be a bit more challenging, I hope. Just don't complain if it's too challenging lol.
