Reviews for "Hero's Arms"

Perfect retro flashback gaming

Its fun, challenging at some points, and humorous. Reminds me of the good old days of gaming.

Thank God

I'd just like to begin this review by saying thank you. Yes... thank you for this game.

As a small child in the Woodlands of Kasterlock, I was raised on the likes of Link, Mario, Kirby, and all the other 8-bit heroes (much like everyone else here), so I'll always have a soft spot for some retro-style gaming. And I dunno who you guys are, but you hit the nail on the head with this'n.

Maybe it was somewhere in the slapstick introduction. Perhaps it was somewhere between the goofy graphics and the killer 8-bit style text. Hell, it coulda been somewhere between the useless ramblings of villagers to the more, dare I say 'serious' tone of World 2. Wherever or whatever it was, this game's got me hooked. It's got the great Zelda vibe, while at the same time retaining a more 'contemporary' feel with the flash-style in-game graphics we all know and love. And yet somehow, this doesn't distract from the nostalgic retro feel I got when playing it.

The story is... erm... well, it takes a more straightforward path, be it in the humour of World 1 or the dank, gloomy atmosphere of World 2. There's no use of unnecessary rambling to be found here (well, for the most part) - just a nice, straightforward game. No tutorials. No detailed ramblings on how to play (I mean hell, it's written on the in-town signs). Just load it up and get you ass 'ta playin, and honestly would be have it any other way?

Though it can get tiring at times taking the same world map to get to side-dungeons and encounter bosses, it's actually worth it. There's enough here to keep you hooked 'til the end, thanks to the awesome progression. Half the time I zoned out and forgot why I was playing (in terms of a story), and didn't care; I just wanted to find the next palace and destroy the next boss, dammit!

Mix one part fantastically polished graphics, add a dash of classic (S)NES-style feel, top with a clever variety of enemies, items, and weaponry, and you got yourself a nice tasty dish. What's not to love? Honestly, I don't think I'd *want* to meet the man who doesn't appreciate a game such as this.

OoohooHHooHO!

oh! Coooolll :D!

Seriously, this game rocks! It mix 2 of my favorites things. Good ol' 8 bit and good flash.

Good history (Have'nt finish, but wont be long ;) )

The only reason why its not 10, is that the music is very annoying past the first 15 min.

So a 9/10. Great game for all RPG fans ;)

I'll say that it's okay

Really, it's just Zelda with experience points.
Hero's Arms is fun in that it's an adventuring RPG, where you can constantly level up and get tons of cash. It isn't fun in that there's only one kinda good weapon and there's a flawed health system. By one kinda good weapon, I mean that the sword doesn't stand up to many enemies effectively, even though it's the highest weapon you can get (without having to start a new game on Kongregate, which I am not going to do). The boomerang doesn't compare, as it's pretty slow and low in damage. The ice scepters are not good for crowds, which you experience a lot in the game. Having a high strength level doesn't help much, as your attack damage goes up slightly each level, resulting in the same amount of hits for an enemy to die. And please, just get rid of useless weapons for which I have better versions of; I don't think I'll be using the stick anytime soon. The health system is ridiculous; I'll get a food drop nearly every 50 enemies I kill, and that number is not constant. Every time I need some health, I don't get any food, but when i have full/nearly full health, I'll get at least 3 chicken legs. If there was a way to store food in order to preserve band-aids, I'd enjoy the game a lot more. Ok, now for the good things this game has.
The art style is great. The gruesome designs for the pig warriors just make me hate them more. This game can last for hours (though it has little replay value) as you scavenge around the playing area for money and items. Just I don't think it took me 20 hours to complete everything, maybe 6 or 7. And yes, I have a life.

Lengthy game with lots of fun to be had.

Hero's Arms plays just like a Zelda game would, if it were made in this time-frame. It has good platformer points and a good RPG system, but sometimes it can feel a little repetitive and simplistic. Normally, simplistic games can be good but with a game showing so much potential it leaves much to be desired. That is not to say the game is not fun however. Hero's Arms offers, as I said, an RPG system of experience, shopping (even if it is very limited), and dungeons. It's a game with plenty to offer, but if only there were more added, it would have been a much better experience. It's a fun game, however, and should leave anyone fulfilled.
