Reviews for "Flash Shadowgate"

i played shadowgate on the NES when i was younger. This really brings me back.

larrymcduck responds:

Glad to hear it! Retro games never die.

Hey good thing.

larrymcduck responds:

Thanks!

Normally I find point and click adventure games boring but this game was an exception due to its theme, music and simplicity. Despite owning an NES, I didn't played this til I discover the gameboy color version which from my understanding its identical to the NES version.

Anyway, great job for porting an old classic to flash :)

larrymcduck responds:

Thanks! There are many different versions of Shadowgate, but this is the one I am familiar with. I played it on the NES when I owned one, then in emulators on the computer. I'm glad this wad a different enough point and click adventure to keep you playing!

Yeah, the leave command is totally useless in this game, but an earlier review you replied in, not being able to use it in the nes rom, was because you were doing it wrong.

The correct way to use the leave command, in the nes rom, is to go into the firedrake room, (the one with flames, that you put out with a sphere.) From there, Either with the flames burning, or totally out, Leave command, item to leave behind, then the flame/oil area of the room.

If the item has no use whatsoever in the game, or no further use whatsoever, it can be left behind. On the other hand, if there is still a use for the item, the game will not let you leave it behind.

Also, some other inconsistencies I have come across.

1. Can't put out your torch by dipping it in water, whether or not you have both of your torches burning.
2. Can't relight the firedrake room after putting it out with the sphere.
3. Can't jump into the fire or oil in the firedrake room.
4. Bottle 5 is unusable. (Original game mentioned it as a sweet tasting liquid or something like that.)
5. Illumini was not required in the nes version, when taking the right door, only for the left.
6. Cannot break the mirror that you would present to the sphinx in this version.
7. Look has no response on Map, Bellows, or Mirror, when they are in your inventory.

And I would like to make a bug report. The bug is the hourglass never goes away, and you can't do anything. The steps to reproduce it, is make it to final room. Save, beat the game. Reload the save slot that you beat the game in. Now you end up with an hourglass, with which you can't do anything. The only workaround after beating the game, is to reload the page.

larrymcduck responds:

Thank you for a detailed explanation of everything. I really appreciate it. I'll work on fixing these :D

The classics never go out of style, and here's proof of that.

larrymcduck responds:

Thank you very much! I completely agree. Classics are where everything now comes from. Majority of the time the new stuff isn't as difficult.
