Reviews for "MINDER"

It's a really nice game, I loved the retro graphics, the concept and the music. I wish I could explore it further, gather all diary pages and buy at least one of the fancy items on the shop, but I got tired of dying before even reaching level 4, and I credit my repetitive failure and hopelessness on some aspects of the game that make it rather unplayable. Let me list those:
-Sometimes your character will move in a direction in which you have not pushed (not sure if that's actually part of the game).
-When you get stuck on the spikes it takes too long for you to release yourself and you continue to get damage as you're still there.
-Whenever you get hurt you lose 2 hearts, might as well just give us five hearts at the beginning and let hazards take one heart at a time. Or what I'd like better, give us the 10 hearts and take 1 per harm.
-The amount of crosses you find in the game seem not proportional to the amount of tombstones there are, and it could be nice to make finding bombs and health just slightly easier.

I hope you continue to expand and improve on this game as it has great potential. With a few tweaks I'd definitely be more than willing to play again and find out what this is all about.

MNWS responds:

Thanks for the review, I'll definitely take your some of your suggestions into consideration. Also, the reason you have 10 hearts instead of 5 is that fall-damage only takes away 1 heart.

I like it, but the level generation is problematic at times. I had some trouble finding which way to go.
And it'd be nice if there was a wider viewing area- the shadowy effect seemed pointless, and inaccurate to the ZX Spectrum style that you're emulating. Also, the music cuts out after a while.

Great idea, but a little slow paced. There ought to be more hazards (besides spikes and long falls), and definitely more enemies.
Maybe a compass showing you which way to go would be good as well.

The Scenery looks quite same-y, try to mix it up a little with different tiles. Waterfalls or something?

It's a nice atmosphere, though. I like how grim the dark cave feels.

I like the atmosphere and idea behind this, and also the ZX spectrum style.... even though, you didn't obay to the rules of only two colors for each field... For example at those spikes.

But sadly...
- returning that page to the door results in....nothing!
- Goodies can appear inside of spikes
- The power drain of flying is a bit too high, making the movement not much fun, as you are too often stuck with waiting

MNWS responds:

Once you return the page to the door, you have to press C to progress. I'll resubmit an updated version of the game where that part is explained better. Thanks for the review.

I'm trying to figure out what the crosses and bombs do. Seriously, what are they for? I dropped several crosses at different locations, they didn't do anything to the terrain or the one enemy I encountered. The bomb is the same way, although I have no idea if they even work on enemies as it detonates painfully slow, meaning it's almost sheer dumb luck if you can actually get one of the enemy wraiths/specters/whatever you call it into the blast radius. I'll be nice and give you 2.5 for this, but the items need a bit more explanation as to their purpose, unless I'm just an unobservant idiot and missed that. If so, my mistake.

MNWS responds:

The bombs are for opening the level up and reaching parts you might not otherwise be able to reach. I agree the crosses might seem a bit useless, but if you keep playing and exploring you might find a way to put them to good use. Thanks for the review!
