Reviews for "At the Door"

It was decent... but kinda random and wierd... the plot and story seemed more off than the Beetle was mentally ill! Still, it was still kinda good and I like it for that.

There's a lot more influence from John K. in this than there is from David Firth. Seems like nobody on NG remembers Ren and Stimpy.

My favorite aspect of this piece is how you managed to break the character's silhouette so frequently. It was a simple character design but you managed to make it expressive and insane without confusing your audience.

Backgrounds were simple yet effective. Voice acting was good. Sound design was good except for the beetle's footsteps, which didn't feel as though they matched up perfectly. Did you ever consider using general skittering noises instead of intentionally placing the sounds of footsteps while he walked? It might have worked to contribute to the 'creepiness.'

Well done, overall.

This was very good. Definitely see the similarities to Firth, but I also noticed some differences too. For one, the storyline was quite linear. The character's depreciation into insanity was clearly marked and it evolved in a way you'd kind of expect. Ordinarily, I might see this quality and argue that it detracts from the artistry of the piece. But what really impressed me was how you incorporated small but noticeable flairs to your character models and expressions as the insanity set in; the small curvature of the lips and mouth, the more angular bone structure, etc. Of course, beetles also remind me of Kafka, and I'm going to assume you've read "Metamorphosis" because of how you developed this story. Very good work once again. I'm sure you'll receive high marks!

I liked the animation and did wonder if it was David Firth at first. However, there was not a real story behind this and it was not understandable. I can kind of understand due to the fact that this was a final project and as a student myself, I understand you don't have as much time to devote. I'd definitely watch more of your stuff, just work on developing a story.

Though I can see the similarites that everyone seems to be talking about calling it a wannabee is taking it to the extreme. I, for one, think you have a very distinct style that differentiates from Mr. Firth's quite a lot with everything from coloration/shading to animation/character style. I genuinely loved this little animation and found it to be relatively smooth with lively colors though if creepy was what you were going for, you didn't quite hit the nail on the head. But I could tell that a LOT of work had been put into this and I congratulate you on a job well done!
