Reviews for "The Enchanted Cave 2"

Overall, I'd say this was a fantastic game, not too hard, not too easy, and doesn't take too much time to beat. I do however see alot of potential for this game , I'll give you some... scratch that several suggestions

1: Different kinds of weapons

Each hand could used to hold one weapon or shield at a time

The back could also hold a large weapon (Bow and Arrow, Greatsword, etc), and a belt could hold 2 small weapons (daggers). Also 1 ring for each finger, because thats realistic ;P.

Bows and Arrows: I realize being able to shoot enemies from a long range would be cheap in this game because they can't move, so you could either have them move towards you when you attack them or have some enemies with projectile attacks that also attack you. also you would only be able to shoot in a straight line. Also their arrows would be finite but retrievable after you kill the enemy and walk over them, or loot them. (whichever you prefer)

Sword in each hand: this would have a faster attack speed but blocks (defense in this case) would not cushion as much of the blows taken

Whips and/or Spears: these would allow for slighlty more distanced attacks making it harder for the enemy to hit you, unless they shoot projectiles.

Guns: these would be very powerful but have very limited ammo (their ammo can't be retrieved)

Light weight weapons Examples: ( daggers, whips, gauntlets, knuckle blades, small guns like a pistole)

Pros

very fast attack speed

require little dexterity

Cons

not much room for enchantments

stats are not as high as the other weapon types

Medium weight weapons Examples ( maces, swords, lightweight shields, medium guns like a rifle, spears, flails, staffs

Pros

Average attack speed

some room for enchantment

average stats

Cons

require some dexterity

Heavy weight weapons Examples ( Greatswords, Lances, Hammers, Axes, Ball and chain, Magic powered drills, hand canons (kaboom!)

Pros

Much room for enchantment

high base stats

Cons

Require alot of dexterity

slow attack speed

2: Other kinds of classes

Rogues: specialize in stealth, speed, close combat precision, versatility and tricks or sleight of hand

Warriors: specialize in strength, defense, endurance

Alchemists: specialize in enchantments and potion making

Mage: specialize in magical attack, magical support, and magical defense

Ranger: specialize in ranged attacks, precision, finding and hitting weakpoints from afar

Overlord: specialize in summons, making or crafting minions, and turning enemies to their side

Smith: specialize in forging weapons and armors

Demolitionist: specializes in making and using bombs (kaboom!)

3: Extra features

Forging: Made with 3 parts the blade, (or head), the guard, and the handle all made on their own with ingredients you acquire

Bomb crafting: Made of 3 layers the shell, the explosives, and the fuse, all made of different ingredients...(kaboom!)

Allies: you could have allies in your party and customize their equipment and skill trees

Orbitals: these are either dolls or crystals that orbit your character

Dolls: can hold one small or medium weapon they attack automatically or on command

Crystal: can hold several of its own enchantments

4: New Equipments

2 boots with their own slots (if i want not matching boots I should be able to have not mathcing boots ;P

1 pair of pants

1 belt used for holding things such as small weapons, ammunition, bombs (...kaboom), throwing darts, etc

1 chest piece

2 vambraces each with their own slot

10 ring slots ( one for each finger)

1 back piece this could be either a bacpack or backstrap

Bacpack: Holds alot but would require alot of strength to wear

Backstrap: hold a few things but doesnt require strength wear

1 head piece

5: Story

I heard mention of a great demon the sorcerer was conjuring, did it fail or it might have gone balistic on its own and fled the enchanted cave to find another cave which the third game could take place in, or maybe its in the premium version ( I don't know)

I realize there is a premium version of this with an extended story and if this was mentioned or done there then please disregard these statements and suggestions

6: Enemies

You could have some enemies move towards you everytime you move (this would severly increase the difficulty)

You could have some enemies moving in random everytime you move

You could have some enemies move away from you

You could also keep some enemies as they are now just standing there never moving

You could have enemies that crawl on the ceilings and you can only see their shadow

You could have some enemies hiding underground and you can only see them with reveal or as a subtle moving small bump in the ground

Closing:

I realize this is alot to put into a game but these are just suggestions for this game's successor so take what you want, or what you can afford

If you do put all of this into the next game I would be very pleased, but you would probably want some kind of monetary return for such a project, so you could have a free 30 floor demo to get people very much interested in it.

All in all, this was a great game and you have earned my regards for making such a great game free to play, all of newgrounds thanks you for your great and humbling contribution to internet society.

Thank you,

Zavanox

This is a solid, though a little flawed game. When I started playing, I quickly discovered a means to dominate the game, stacking hp and mp regen and making sure that I have the right resists for the area and occasional item swapping. One of the big issues I had with it though was I felt too strong, the game didn't feel difficult enough. I had all these ingredients and I would just look at them, and think to myself "I'll start making potions when it gets too hard to clear areas" and that time never came. I blasted from a save somewhere in the ~30th floor all the way to the 70th, which ended up being my downfall.

The final boss (assuming the boss at the 70th floor is the final one) felt a bit cheap to me. When I went in there, I looked at his stats. He appeared to have ~320 phys damage and 30 to all resists. "Okay." I thought. I went and made a few phys defense potions to completely negate his damage. When I started attacking him, he hit me with what seemed to be random elements. "Oh shit." I thought, but I decided to keep fighting to see whether id win, but when it was clear I was losing I stepped away. I then crafted -ALL- my materials into potions, focusing on elemental resists, and when I couldn't get those, damage. I was on very low hp, but when I looked at the elemental resist bonuses in the corner I figured he wouldn't do any damage at all. Nope. Seemed as if he still did the same amount of damage and I died there, losing almost all my progress. I felt very gimped, and I probably won't play though all that grinding again just to beat the final boss.

Over all solid game though, for the next one I'd suggest making it harder (or making a hard mode), balancing the class trees better (the heal spell was way too OP to the point that it was mandatory), and, I dunno man, making the final boss' information actually reflect what it can do, or at least cover it up and make it a secret, rather than giving the players misinformation.

My review:
This is easily a 5 star game, and it has a lot of potential. If you were to make it have around 500 programed story mode floors, then an endless amount of randomly generated floors after that, it would be quite the game, one I would even pay for! It would be interesting to try to set high scores based on how far you travel into endless mode with no shops, and the enemies get gradually harder.

SPOILER GAME GUIDE AND TIPS

General must know tips:
>when you leave a dungeon you ONLY KEEP GOLD ITEMS (they are highlighted in yellow)
>there is a spell in the mage skill tree to bind items (turn them gold)
>you can combine ingredients into potions in the craft menu, these can give great buffs.
>you can enchant items at the furnaces with ingredients to have PERMANATE EFFECTS, this costs mana but very important to do.
>Eventually you get ingredients so you can enchant your gear to give you mana or hp after each kill, this enchantment is called "regeneration" not to be confused with "restore".
>box chests contain ingredients, metal chests contain armor, green chests contain consumable itmes such as pick axes or potions, and red chest contain golden items.
>always put your level ups into attack, I've tied everything, attack works By far the best.
>there is 80 floors
>when fighting bosses MAKE SURE TO SWITCH THE COMBAT SETTING TO SLOW.

DIFFERENT CHARACTER CHOICES
theres 3 skill trees, and I have beaten the game 3 times, using a different tree each time. I learned that its not a matter of preference, certain skill trees are simply better then others.

Warrior- This is by FAR the best skill tree, try to put your points in the attack boosts first. You will one hit kill everything. You also get a massive xp boost in this tree. Soon you will "Out level" the game, meaning you will rack up so much xp on each floor, that your character develops faster then the difficulty progression. TRY TO KILL AS MUCH MOSTERS ON EACH FLOOR AS YOU CAN. Also try to enchant your gear to have HP REGENERATION. Using this plan I beat the game only leaving the dungeon A SINGLE TIME. This is the EASY way to beat the game.

Mage- This is the second best skill tree. Get the heal spell first, then transmute to bind gear to your character. Put all your levels in attack. Enchant your gear to have MP REGENERATION. hold click enemies to check for a weakness, and exploit it. Note that unlike the warrior, this class has a shocking lack of defense. You must be careful not to needlessly waist your resources killing everything on the floor with this character. had to leave the dungeon 5 TIMES using this character. This was my favorite character however and was fun to play as. To beat the game with this character the difficulty was MEDIUM.

Bard- This is by far the WORST skill tree. If you enjoy dying, slow progression, and headaches, this is your class. This Character has a shocking lack of defense, and attack. ALL of his strength comes from potion stack. You must be VERY carful on what you choose to kill because each kill lowers your potion stack. The best way to use this character I found, was to horde ingredients, and then chug them all at once. You will be immortal, but only for a short time. I had to leave the dungeon over 10 TIMES an spent 3 TIMES as long trying to beat the game. This is a very tedious character choice. This is by far, the HARDEST way to beat the game

Side note to Juanipif (the commenter beneath me):
you are a total noob, THERE IS NOT 100+ LEVELS! You clearly did not come even close to beating the game. The fire dagger is the lowest level bindable item you find around level 10, which tells me you just grinded the bottom floors over and over like a total nub. ITS REPETITIVE BECAUSE YOU JUST GRINDED THE BOTTOM FLOORS OVER AND OVER, THAT IS TOTALY UNESSISARY IF YOU HAVE HALF A BRAIN.

Ok, it's a really good game, I love it, so lets start:

+100 floors
+a lot of equipment
+a lot of monsters
+interesting story
+random generation

*almost no bugs

-sometimes repetitive
-have 8 fire daggers
-repetitive music

anyway, its awesome

I started losing faith in flash games but games like this restores my faith. It was long time since I had so much fun.
