Reviews for "Court Ordered - Pilot"

Hilariously perfect!

Amazingly funny

Great animation, hilarious dialogue, good start to a story. I hope to see more!

The animation and the art style were very, very well done. Props to the animator. As for the comedy and the plot itself; it left something to be desired. I got through half of the animation without laughing once and stopped there. The humor came across as juvenile for the sake of juvenile which I didn't find entertaining. If you are looking to improve you should try to create a realistic scenario wherein the characters act in a juvenile way, showing juvenile behavior which is caused by their addictions/afflictions, and that lands them in awkward, weird, or just downright bad situations. Then comes entertainment and comedy as these characters try to asshole and bullshit their way out a bad situation. The scene where the main character gets pulled over was a pretty entertaining scene because its not very far off from the truth. I found myself smiling when the main character explained that the tequila was for his friend and then said he needed to file a missing persons report. The way he tried to manipulate the cop was clever... for someone who was shit faced. The following scene, however, fell completely flat. After the main character calls the judge a bitch she just ignores the comment. The joke came across as lazy. It would have been more entertaining to see the judge begin to argue and berate the main character about his poor behavior. This may have lead to the main character arguing back because of denial. It would have been funny to then hear him call the judge a bitch, which would lead to her harsh sentencing. It seems as though the main character is in this predicament because the judge is a bitch. The main character should be in that scenario because he is an alcoholic, and also because the judge is a bitch. Otherwise everything comes across as pointless. During one conversation, a character says that drugs is his higher power. It would have been nice to have the stereotypical stoner then launch into a monologue about how the universe has no meaning except the meaning we ascribe to it, and by choosing drugs as his higher power he is no different than someone who puts their faith in the government or in religion. Then maybe he quotes Jesus himself as saying a man cannot serve two masters. And then he undermines that whole argument by being a stereotypical stoner. Something like that would be more funny than the meaningless cracks because it shows a hint of character and a hint of realism. It shows a brilliant mind that has been tarnished by drugs. Also, while I know this is a pilot and as such it must introduce its main characters and backstory, the pacing feels far too rushed. If you are planning a 15 minute video pace it out much slower and with more deliberate dialogue. There is a high concentration of jokes here, but none of them were very funny. They felt heavy handed. Try to slow the pacing and make some of the jokes more meaningful and thought out. I know how an alcoholic acts. I know how a sex addict acts. I don't want to see some alcoholic or some sex addict act, I want to see your characters act. I want to see more personality behind them. I want to know that there are thoughts, desires, and actual human emotions behind their addictions, decisions, and behavior. A lot of the problems here felt to me, and I could be wrong, to be caused by lack of a single final editor. It seems like you have a lot of comedians vying to be the most funny, but without any structure or actual writing, it comes across as sloppy and shows. You've got a solid foundation here and I'm glad to see people are interested in this, but don't think you're at the top of the mountain yet. Keep refining.

pretty nice pilot, i hope this becomes a full series soon!
