Reviews for "Double Date"

Curly sparklebud that sounds like the name of the villain.

It is a nice little film. The artwork is a little rough around the edges e.g. the dutch police car. the plot is well made and clear. you girls are also capable of bringing the message to the viewers without using words. kudos. i do feel like gay superheroes/vilains in the netherlands are a tad surreal but hey whatever makes you tic. using clever dutch details also added to the surreal feeling. I do think the ending is well chosen and during the ending that wanted portrait is a nice detail

music is well chosen but is it referring to the flight of the bumblebee?

TL;DR overall a nice film, rushed and with lots of room for improvement

CurlySparklebud responds:

But I am not the villain!

They don't have names in the story, but we used to call the hero 'Star Bob' and our villain 'Slechte Rik' (Bad guy).

We also went for the Dutch thing because it isn't used much.

That aside, thank you for the review Walkerke! Much appreciated!

Took a while to catch on to what was really going on, but once you do it's a great story. Feels like maybe things could've been clearer at the start though. With dialog? With more focus on details, like what message the guy receives before he takes off? It's nicely animated, and ends great, but not as clear plot progression as I think it could have. Keep up the good work!

CurlySparklebud responds:

The story originally had more scenes which helped explaining what was going on. We sadly had to cut them due to the deadline coming closer and closer. We also went for no dialogue on purpose. We wanted to challenge ourselves to make a story without any.

Thank you for your review CyberDevil! I will be sure to keep it in mind for the next one!

I don't want to sound harsh (because I couldn't do better), but I feel the only reason this animation has such a high score is because it portrays a gay couple. The art and animation is rough at times, and jumpy to non existant at others. I mean, the transitions were incredibly rushed at times. There's plenty of room for improvement.

On the other hand, I really liked that you set your story in the Netherlands. I also liked the very last scene, I felt it was a nice touch.

Anyways, keep it up.

CurlySparklebud responds:

Thank you for taking the time to review the animation CN!

I have to say that I agree on your opinion. The animation was very rushed and most of the scenes were done in the last 2 weeks. I myself worked non stop from 9 am till 8 pm that time. A lot of the sketch animations I received missed a lot of key frames and were not properly timed. And as the one who inked, colored and put the whole project together that was very annoying. I've spend a lot of time adding extra frames. A lot of scenes were removed as well due to our sketch animator deciding not to make them on their own and due to having little time in the end which is what resulted in said rushed transitions besides the lack of frames.

To keep it short: I agree that the animation itself could have used more effort. I for one am determined to improve my skills to make better projects in the future. I am not done with animation yet ;)

Regardless, I am glad to hear you liked the ending! Again thank you for taking the time to review the animation! I hope I answered some questions!
