Reviews for "Why Basic Income?"

Well made video. Gorgeous.

To all those saying this message can't work:

What about 20 years from now (or maybe as few as 1-5 years for some occupations) where your job is done by a robot. What now?

Robotics will be able to do almost everything and maybe actually everything.

The only viable long term economic solution I see is a guaranteed basic income and a moderate tax on robot and automation labor.

Another great video about this subject is by CGP Grey, "Humans need not apply"

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I had the option of playing video games all day, I probably would.

adamanimates responds:

I might for a while too, but then I would get bored and make more animations.

The idea seems a bit sketchy, but we need solutions to these problems, and this might be it. As long as there is overwhelming evidence that this works, then im not gonna argue. I will give this idea some time because i think it has some worth. Great animation by the way.

Thank you for explaining the interconnecting socioeconomic web between the safety net known as "Basic Income" in regards to reducing poverty and crime prevention. For a 100 years, people have known the statistics and the connection between the lack of financial opportunities and crime, yet the poor are still victimized because the ones with wealth do not want to lose their power. Shaming the poor keeps them and others from questioning an unjust economic system.

I am an educated American college graduate who's job sector was displaced by the tech industry; I changed careers two times, held 7 temporary jobs, and still have no luck. If Canada passes the "Basic Income" law, I will be the first American to work in Canada because it is nice to have the Basic Income as a safety net. I'm unemployed and live at home and always looking for work. There must be 30 million lazy Americas, too.

adamanimates responds:

Yeah, I think the only way some people will realize there's a problem is when they find themselves out of work and get tired of blaming themselves.

It is rare to see such a high quality animation for a social-political topic. Images, keyframes, audio, comparisons and script are outstanding! It really keeps my attention and I don't feel information overloaded.

Maybe it could still be improved by adding a comparison for the hard-sceptics, who are not open to the mentioned facts. A thing like the combustion-engine could do, where people could not imagine a motor that works with explosions inside could do anything good.

adamanimates responds:

Thanks a lot. I've been trying all sorts of things to reach the hard skeptics. I think the most effective way is to find out who they respect that supports the idea.

No one seems to know how close the US came to passing this sort of legislation. There used to be 90% support and everyone thought it was inevitable. So I'm thinking of making a new video about Nixon's basic income plan, and how that would have totally changed American society.
