Reviews for "Sunset Highwave"

This is so solid in terms or style and sound! The melodies are all great too.
Seriously though, SoundChris already said it... But I get suuuch an 80s movies feel from this o.O
I happen to be a bit of a movie fanatic, hehhe, so I would know :p

My one complaint is a couple of parts might feel ever so slightly teeny-weeny repetivite. BUT that also just adds to the clarity of the style; I feel going outside of that realm would've been a mistake in this instance. One that you didn't commit ;)
Did I mentioned the main melody is super catchy?

Really great work, and good luck in the competition!

Whoah, this sounds incredibly clean! It has a bit of Depeche Mode in it, gotta love it ^^
Excellent job!

Wow, I'm digging this! :D Thanks for the review!

this mix is really good. i would love to see how you did it.

track is awesome too, but it like... seems to lack a melody of any sort? :/ which makes it seem weirdly empty, like its just a succession of chords. COOL chords mind you but yeah. kind of a bummer cuz you usually write nice melodies.

also it could do with a breakdown?

its still good.

EvilRaccoon responds:

Thanks johnfn. Information like this is vital to really nail my issues. I still believe I have a long way to go. The melody produced for this is heard at 1:03 - 1:26, that was my intent, anyway :P. I think a counter melody may have helped, with a different instrument to really bring the track to a more interesting state. So you hear one theme, then another and back to the original.

Tbh, this is an on going problem with me, and something I am actively working on to fix. I believe prominent and confident melodic themes are one of my weakest areas, as my simplicity approach to themes can be my downfall. This is partly because I've been learning trailer music, which themes are not to really be evident, because people become attached to them.

I think because Chris and I were learning something new, it was a scramble to cram electronic production and learn a lot in a short space of time, so maybe melody took a hit. But what we both felt was that no matter who doesn't go through to the next round, we both won a lot, and I was forever laughing at Chris's production which had me in it!

Mixing techniques and general production work is something people seem to mention with me, which is always nice to hear because I put a lot of effort into it. I've changed my entire approach over the last few years, so it's a refined production.

It's also something people always ask about. So I might make an audio podcast just talking general production, which covers my approach.

Thank you for your comments, I will take them on board. :)

well fuck peter just dropped the bomb. didn't know you pull the synthwave trick. i have no comment on this track because it's so amazing in many aspects. i just wanna say one thing: EFFING DOPE! you guys are showing shit off so well, so far! :DDDDD

EvilRaccoon responds:

Thanks! Chris suggested it, and I loved the idea we try to push ourselves in a different direction. Glad you loved it! I'm trying not to fall asleep waiting from everyone else to submit! :D

(Like you! :P )

Alright! This reminds me of 80's action movies.
Obligatory collared polo shirt tucked in pants with a leather belt, hair stiff enough to withstand a typhoon.

Nice one.

EvilRaccoon responds:

lol! Do you think people would look at me funny if I started dressing like that? :D

Thanks for the review!
