A Barn Owl

A barn owl goes hunting... in the middle of the day? (It must be very hungry)
This flash is very different from my other uploads, I tried out a new style witch benefits my original drawing style a bit more. It's actually the second flash I do in this style, the first one is about a dragon, and will be published as soon as the sound is done.
Anyways, there's not much story in this flash and it's very short, but I worked hard on each and every frame.

I'm still new at animating, so feel free to give advices :)

Pretty nice

I actually really like the designs of everything, but it seems to be a bit lacking in the story department, and it seems to lag up a bit towards the end.

But I can definitely see this becoming something great.

eeh

nice job but could of done it longer or something

You're off to a brilliant start!

-It could use additional sound effects to promote immersion. Rustling of the leaves, subtle noises like the owl's wings flapping or catching air, the rush of wind as it approaches, even super subtle noises like the mouse's paw contacting the seed with a barely audible pat...all of these could easily be reproduced with items in your very home or with your own body or mouth. Music couldn't hurt either, but I don't think this particularly needed it.
-The end when it closes in on the mouse, the frame-rate dips so dramatically that I initially thought it was unintentional. Learn to create the slow-motion illusion without sacrificing smoothness, and you'll have achieved a very advanced animation challenge. Slow motion is EXTREMELY difficult to pull-off, but to slow down the frame-rate where it chops like that makes viewers like me think it's an error with our flash player or browser.

Still, if you told a bunch of animators to describe what we just watch and had them animate it themselves, this is a challenging subject matter. A graceful owl's hunt as it preys upon a mouse below...I gotta admire the perspectives you chose for each shot!

Keep up the good work, keep churning stuff out while the momentum is still warmed up! Congratulations on your first Daily, and go ahead and download a stock NG Preloader to add to your future submissions. Go to "Downloads" underneath the Newgrounds banner in the top left, then go to Preloaders and take your pick!

promising

end credits would be nice. and a replay button to restart the anim. try not to auto loop the next one.

like the touch at the end.

Promising

First off, you could definitely use a preloader. Just so the movie isn't playing when it's not done loading.

I'm not sure if there is supposed to be sound? It might have never loaded properly and I can't quite be sure. But scrounge around in the audio portal, some fitting music would help this piece a lot! Maybe a couple sound effects to, just to breathe some life into the animation.

You're lines were a little rough, but the fbf was quite excellent. You shots like the camera zooming in on the mouse, you might want to spice it up. Make smooth lines. Add a bit of shading. And maybe add a little twinkle to the eyes. It gives us something more to look at.

Overall it looks like you definitely have talent. And I'm interested in seeing some more, like this dragon animation you've mentioned.

Hikarian responds:

I did put a little sound in the flash, but you haven't missed much. Truth is, I did try to put in a newgrounds preloader, but I'm using Flash CS4 and it said that it didn't work for my action script... Next time I make a flash I guess I'll have to find out how to make my own preloader first...

Thank you for commenting :)
