Reviews for "Hoshinofuru"

~Review Request Club~

Well man, this is a great example of conflict for me. The RPG was entirely well built, and the graphics were actually better than they first appeared. The biggest problem with the submission was that it didn't do anything new. Others have done the same basic concept before, and your game really didn't develop too far beyond this concept.

I thought that the game was very well programmed. It's clear you spent a lot of time working on this, and also a lot of time testing for bugs, as I found not one bug. The battle system worked flawlessly, and I never saw anything out of place or got incorrect stats or inventory. My only issue that even sort of falls into this department is what Fro said. I really wish there was a confirmation screen before you switched your guys out. I actually did this twice when I meant not to, but fortunately, it wasn't too big of a game killer. This issue isn't even really a programming issue, more just something that should have come up during play testing, and I understand that it didn't. It's not really a bug at all.

The art at first seemed very average, and there was very little animation during fights and anywhere else in the game for that matter. The art actually was better than I thought; at points, it looked below average for a submission of this caliber, but at others (particularly in the town) it looked well done. The biggest issue with the art is that sometimes the animation looked a little funky. A little more work in making sure things flowed together a little better, and there should have been more variety in the attack animations. Still, this was more of a plus than a minus for the game.

Overall, the game had so, so much potential. Everything was professionally done, like how you included quite a variety of sounds, but managed to keep the file size very low. A little more time spent in the art department, and a little more time spent in the design phase thinking of something new to do with the genre would make this game one of the best on Newgrounds. I do some flash games, so I know how hard making a full, working RPG is, and that alone is an accomplishment. I'd love to see a sequel that addresses the issues the game has, because this is close, very close. Besides, now that you have a full engine working, the sequel will take almost no time at all ;). Good luck guys, this is so close to being front page material.

Thanks :P i programmed it and tested... the only bug that was found by ng users was corrected the next day and it was a stupid mistake i made :p you can see it in the description.

Yeah that is a good idea for part 2 thanks you and fro :D

" Yeah the true is that i only made the desing like backgrounds (except the battle background) and menu and panel option, the rest it was made by tamisise... but you can see if you want hoshinofuru arena... it has most of the graphics that will have part 2 but is not the part 2! :P

Thanks a lot :P and i making the second part from 0 :p so it will take a time... but we got all how it will be and the graphics already made for part 2 :P

~ Animation/Graphics ~

The graphics weren't the best and I see that you have improved them for the next one that you showed me a sneak peek of. They look much better on that one. On this one though they aren't too good.

There wasn't a lot of animation and perhaps there could be a little bit more? All of the characters have different attacks so they should all look a bit different from each other instead of using the same thing.

~ Story/Content ~

The game idea is great and the programming is really good. I think that 1-20 is a bad idea for the next level. Instead it should go up by 5's. For example Noob, 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, etc... This would make the game a lot more balanced and then at the very last one if you wanted to skip ahead and make it by 20 then it would be a fun challenge.

You level up at a good speed for the game to be enjoyable. Not too slow and not too fast. The characters were pretty good in variety as well. THIS WOULD MAKE IT REALLY FUN. Instead of changing your characters give us different options to evolve into just like in pokemon, but we get to choose. Show us the different strengths and weaknesses so we can make up our mind. (I guess that's kind of like digimon right?)

Here comes the load of bad things though. The Change screen is very confusing. I leveled my character up to level 10 when I ran into a new enemy and I accidentally changed my high level guy for him... It needs to be more clear and it could even say something like, "Are you sure you want to get rid of (insert name and level of the monster here)?"

I never got to see how any of the items in the store worked because I never made enough money and I never got to see what was in the other rooms. Are they there for a reason?

I gave up on the game when I switched out my high level character, but before that I was having a lot of fun.

~ Audio ~

The sound in the beginning (thunder and lighting, menu, and character select screen) weren't very good. They sounded like they had a very low quality to them. The sounds that you had in the new adventure screen and then for the rest of the game sounded good though.

One more thing about the audio as well. When you went into the store the song continued. This was good. When you left the store the song started all over again and this made it choppy. The song should loop the same no matter what you do in the buildings.

~ Overall ~

A few faults really brought the rating down in my review, but with a few improvements this could very well be my favorite game on newgrounds and even medal worthy in my opinion. Keep working and I can't wait to see the sequel to this. :)

Thanks a lot :P you actually can see the strenght of each osanai :P. Emmm yeah good idea that one of "Are you sure you want to get rid..." Beucause it will be very usefull :p
Yeah the graphics in this one are horrible :p but the AS i think is very well made and for the part 2 will be better in graphics and AS :P
The problem of the levels where true they where very difficult but once you get to lvl 20 with a mid osanai you where avaible to training easy...
I though the audio was perfect :P dont know why you say no XD please explain it to me later :p
The problem of the village with the store i didnt see it before :p thanks for telling me this... i will make it better in hoshinofuru 2 :p
Glad that you like it this game and thanks for the reviews :p

OH YEAH

This game is strangely ADDICTING. Maybe because it's like pokemon. Nonetheless, it's awesome. I got a shinigami and then a kitsunekaji (the fox thing) all in the beginning. EPIC LUCK. Also, defense doesn't matter after you get attack-based, err, creatures and defense doesn't matter after you get to level 100. You can practically hit anything with any creature, excluding the elephant thing, the rose thing, the weepinbell thing, and the pyramid. thing. I hate the pyramid things..... and kitsunekaji's are OP! I also hate how the escape thing sometimes takes forever to happen. Well, the game's fun. Just do these things so that it could be more appealing and.. fun.
Design it better. The graphics aren't too shabby, but they need work. And make the attacks actually look like something other than 3 flashes of light. The autoheal is also kind of useless, so that should be taken away. After battles, when the thing asks you to change things, add the stats of the things and stuff to see if you need it or not. Or you can add a pokedex thing... Also, what's the point of the frame after the one that asks you to change things? It just shows your old team, if you changed things. You don't really need to see that every time you win a battle. It's annoying. And things, in this case, are the creatures, just in case you were wondering.
Personally, I enjoy that you made that lion thing, cause I can kill them easily for good exp. :D
Btw, when I say you, it's towards the team that made this.
Anyways, great job, and I'm really looking forward to a sequel.. and I hope it meets my standards. ;)

P.S. Some of the things I said were ordered weirdly, or sounded weird. K. Bye.
P.S.S. I'm the 8th reviewer.

Awesome man! lov that you like it :p and yess will be a second part :D and will be online :O

stopAllSounds

Add a code to the buttons that take you out of buildings at town
stopAllSounds();
that'll stop the music from overlapping itself

Could use some work, but not bad to start.

I have to agree with Yarfapet here. The system is very unbalanced, because there is way too much importance on defense. Because of this the game is incredibly hard to start, in fact I could only get to a higher level with Sakashi, and not any of the other starters. Also the level up bonus is unbalanced. Just adding on the base stat amount onto the current stat level makes some of the characters completely obsolete. The problem I find here is that you can inflict 0 damage to an opponent making the battles incredibly difficult and long.
The last thing is the enemy generator. Even though the first is 1-20, you cant really try unless your character is at least level 13 because of the random level spawn. Try to put smaller incremented generators to make it somewhat possible to survive. Other than that, the music wasn't bad and there was a good amount of characters to "catch" as it were.

"Other than that, the music wasn't bad and there was a good amount of characters to "catch" as it were." Yeah the music from FuNaNdMoRe is awesome and for the next one there will be at least 25 osanais more :D

Thanks for reviewing :P
