Reviews for "Frantic Frigates"

Wasted 2 hours of my life :)

Simple mechanics, simple rules, addicting game.

Liked but hated

Man, this game is boring at the beggining, but then it gets better, and then you die and you smash your computer screen. 9/10

Fun, could be even better

I enjoyed the game, and the auto-fire and auto-aim were sweet, but in contrast to some of the other reviewers, I found it too short and too easy. The medals don't seem scaled properly either. I managed to beat the game on my fifth run-through or so, and on my latest attempt I defeated the final boss three times before committing suicide. The endless final waves should increase in difficulty because I had between 3-5 lives at all times. So here I am, still lacking the play 8 and 10 times medals as well as the 1 and 2 hours of play medals. There's nothing left for me to do in terms of game play so those are medals I'll never earn.

For those struggling, here's the strategy I used. The waves end and the boss appears in congruency to how many kills you have. With better weapons, you'll kill enemies faster, but your income will be too low to buy better upgrades. All you should have to upgrade in the first stage are the loot bonuses (you can equip more than one of the same type of upgrade). Search out the treasure chests and don't get too hung up on killing enemies. By the second stage you'll want to upgrade your weapon. Don't go overboard, you just need good enough gear to stay alive and keep chasing those treasure chests. Once you purchase the $5k ship you unlock the ability to purchase the final upgrades in future plays, so make this a goal.

By this point you should have a pretty good starting bonus, buy the +4 loot bonus and $100 ship right off the bat, then buy the +3 loot bonus ASAP. This will max out your loot and magnet bonus. You should be able to complete this before reaching the first boss, giving you maximum income (if you're not maxing out your loot bonus before the first boss you need more starting income). With your haul from the first boss, buy a new ship and one of the midway weapon upgrades in order to keep alive. You should make income easily, sell off your weapon for the top weapon upgrade as soon as you can afford it. Then buy the rest of the upgrades in whatever order you choose, eventually selling off your +3 loot to buy the final do-it-all upgrade (it has +2 loot anyway, so along with the +4 loot you'll have a loot level of 7 out of 8, which is plenty).
