Reviews for "Escape from the VBP"

i actually think that this game is really great. the upgrade mechanics could use some tweaking, but what i think made the game worth 4.5 stars was the beutiful retro graphics and its great soundtrack and level sounds.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked the game:).

Okey, very nice game, but you need to improve some things.

Bad things:

- Upgrades are very easy to max.
- and still, not easy enough to win the game.
- Bullets ran out very fast, even at max level.
- the last gun depletes your ammo really quick. (1 second of shooting depletes a full load of ammo.
- Why the 'Bullets Power-up' is the same icon as the Shield icon at the bottom left?
- Health (Shield) power-ups are really rare to obtain, even you can beat the game without getting a chance to refill the shield.
- Some lasers are unsync of the machines which shoot them (incomplete wall)
- Max speed's ship is slow even at max level.
- You used the same values of the upgrade's menu as the configuration of the game, instead of using the level value. (Max Speed = 100 ? )
- For each Ammo upgrade, you increase the maximum amount of bullets as 1. Useless if you use the MK3 (Final weapon)

Suggestions:
+ More upgrades. - 5 shields are ok, but increase the time of invulnerability after hit, or the health power-up spawn.
+ More ammo. - For each level up, increase 3 bullets of capacity (This is an example.)
+ Fix the laser wall's issue.
+ When you buy a gun, make it equipped automatically.
+ The ship speed. Increase it, please.
+ The Protip. It's always the same tip after you die.

I liked:
The graphics. (Neon + Pixel = FTW!)
The music. (Including SFX)
Teleporting. (Is really helpful to do the first 30% of the map automatically, so you can go on in more challenging fields with your upgraded ship.)

Custom tips:
* If you destroy one of the extremes of the laser wall, you remove the wall entirely.
* Try to get the Coin Magnet as fast as you can, is really, really useful to complete the other upgrades.
* Don't buy all the guns, buy the second one if you want, and then buy the last weapon. It's cheap, and the money is easy to get. Even more with the Coin Magnet (same price)
* It's not that useful the Bonus Magnet to pay what it costs.
* Try to use the bomb to save your last life at the very end of the level.

Nice game, 3.5/5

Hey, this is a very helpful feedback, thanks! I will do the improvements, but not to this version of game (it has already spread over the Internets). Your custom tips are very useful for all who wants to complete the game quickly btw:).

Ok game more graphics needed

meinlogin responds:

Haha, thanks! Will try better next time:).

Another McFlash game with pixel-sprites, money collectables and shopping for power-ups after you die. Hardly re-inventing the wheel here are we lol, but hey, for what it's worth your game isn't bad at all. After all, if it works, don't break it..
The particle effects you have used are polished and attractive to the eye. I thought the power-ups were well-balanced. Also the time it takes to clock the game is about right. Some love&care has gone into this title.
Good little time-waster this one. It's addictive.
I hope your next game is a little more original though- this one is a little too cookie-cutter for my tastes.

As some people have said, you're hit-box collision detection is a little off. Def need pixel-perfect for this kind of game. Might I recommend Troy Gilbert's adapted Pixel Perfect Col. Class? Works an absolute charm.

Keep it up dude.

Thank you for feedback!

you might want to lower the starting amount of money, or at least increase the best gun's cost.
The best one is 500 and you start with 500.... just saying there seems to be a negating effect of the less expensive ones.
Still.. this is REALLY addicting

meinlogin responds:

Thanks for your opinion, and I'm glad you liked the game. The guns are very cheap, yes, but that's because they are not extremely useful. Upgrades cost more, and I decided to give some starting money so that it's possible to upgrade the ship.
However, I agree that the most expensive gun should cost more, so that it's impossible to buy it from the start.
