Reviews for "Rex: Origins"

The premise is actually really good, but you lost half a star because i don't speak fluent Internet.

The dialogue at the beginning almost turned me off of this. Glad I played it....Fak that last level tho...

Kwing responds:

Yeah, I wasn't sure how I wanted this game to come out but silly usually does well at Game Jams so that's what I aimed for.

That last platforming section is brutal in a couple ways, but this is pretty good as a simple mechanic game jam game. I'd give it around a 3.5, but I kinda love the rap (and as an indie dev working solo on a flash game, I feel it) and that boosts it up to 4 stars for me.

Kwing responds:

Hey, thanks! I was running out of ideas toward the end of the game and I didn't want to just include the same mechanics over and over, so I settled for a couple gimmicky sections. Looking back I'm thinking I should have changed the rounded edges of the platforms at least a little.

Glad you liked the rap too.

The idea is original and awesome! Also, the soundtrack was touching, deep, and well thought-out... so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye...

Love the music, made me laugh. It reminded me of the improv / silly raps my friends used to make with me. As far as 24 hour game jams go, this is good stuff. You show an ability to prioritize the most important aspects of your game and you're okay with just having fun with quickly getting the other aspects together. That's a skill I lack, being a perfectionist.

I loved the bit in the song about the Unity gamedev kids gettin sloppy. It's true, and I'm guilty of it! Having the engine do so much for you lowers the barrier of entry, so less talented people can use it, and that amateur demographic becomes synonymous with the engine.
