Reviews for "Rex: Origins"

That last platforming section is brutal in a couple ways, but this is pretty good as a simple mechanic game jam game. I'd give it around a 3.5, but I kinda love the rap (and as an indie dev working solo on a flash game, I feel it) and that boosts it up to 4 stars for me.

Kwing responds:

Hey, thanks! I was running out of ideas toward the end of the game and I didn't want to just include the same mechanics over and over, so I settled for a couple gimmicky sections. Looking back I'm thinking I should have changed the rounded edges of the platforms at least a little.

Glad you liked the rap too.

This is crazy :D Love the music but three listens in a row is my limit.

Kwing responds:

I was unsure as to what to do with the music. I wanted to write a longer verse because looping can get annoying but you get really pinched for time during a Game Jam. I also didn't want it to just end or loop through the instrumental because people walking by during the Jam wouldn't have heard it.

All points go for the roflmao moment I went through when listening to the song. The rest is quite amateurish but I guess that's the point.

Kwing responds:

Yeah, I get that. There's a limit to what you can do in 42 hours, if you play other Game Jam games you'll see the same kind of thing popping up everywhere.

I have reviewed over a hundred games. Did it a couple times most likely. I have never really been thrown off guard, but than I played yours and despite some of the misgivings I enjoyed it a lot and the music got me laughing and I never stopped. Here is a video review if you want to take a look, and I hope you continue making games.

Kwing responds:

Hey, thanks for the review! Loved your reaction to the last level, you had the same WTF response as most of the other people in the Jam. It IS beatable but you really have to bullshit your way through it, which was kind of the design.

If you're wondering I did ALL of the audio - I beatboxed over the kazoo, then did throat singing over the beatboxing, and rapped over that.

Also the abbreviation in the intro is "Jesus fucking Christ kill yourself."

That song was dope as hell...the first time I heard it.
Having tips or explanations in your rap was pretty creative though.
Still, had fun. Good job man.

Kwing responds:

Thanks. Is there a reason you marked me down though? I'm fine with bad scores but it'd be cool to know why.
