Reviews for "Extraction (LDJAM version)"

I beat it in approximately 4 seconds.

Very well-done, and without using moronically convoluted clues to solve puzzles. I strongly encourage you to make a full point-and-click game with your talent! :)

Criobite responds:

I will! Glad you like the game! :D

This need be said. Too many games like this require so much hoopla, going through one task after another without clue, clarity, or courtesy. Yours manages to be a fun, quick, challenging little puzzle for the fun and frolic, and one can easily re-attempt for a faster time, or challenge a friend to see if they beat it. And therein lies the replay-value. For a short game, one can have a fair bit of fun and make a meal of it.
Moreover, this spares many from the tedium of dealing with awkward controls or other such aggravating matters. The simplicity of the point and click interface is something seen in many other such games, but without the same efficacy. Too often, one ends up clicking through the inventory of other games, wishing for something simple, while a clue or avenue that was not readily apparent goes by unnoticed by the player. We could wish for more games like this, where one can enjoy thinking through it, rather than having to seek walkthrus from the creators. If one has to look up how to solve the game, then what is the point? The prolific DeathTiger0 comes to mind, wherein quantity far outpaces quality, and the games feel like they are just produced on an assembly line.
This feels like it was made by someone with limited time, but noble efforts to produce something worthwhile.
I enjoyed it and would love to see what you produce with more time to really give us something more substantial to play with. In all, a worthwhile effort and a credit to your skills.

Man... You really saw through to my core ideals of game design and the passion I strive to put into my work. Thank you so much for the kind words, they mean a lot to me!

You're clearly a submachine fan! Great work, please make more.

Criobite responds:

I sure am, and I'll definitely be making more! :D

- The puzzles were logical and intuitive; I really liked not having to deal with bat-shit insane "logic" or a pixel-hunt, like most point-and-clickers.

- The tool-tips are a really good idea, especially if you start making games that are lengthier than a Ludum Dare entry.

- The big mainframe computer-jobbie threw me off a bit in the beginning; I was so used to bat-shit insane point-and-clickers, I thought it actually had something to do with what was on the card, until I discovered the other room, lol. This point is not so much a criticism of your game as it is a criticism of most other point-and-click games, lol.

- I think that if you put more than 72 hours of effort into a future game, it will end up really awesome. But for now, this and "The Treasure Tomb" are pretty good teasers. "All my 5 R belong to this" and you have a new follower.

Criobite responds:

Good points! And I'll definitely be moving into doing bigger games!
