I couldn't save the guy. Sorry. This is an interesting game though
Even following your walkthrough, I'm not seeing where any kind of action anybody would possibly grasp intuitively would lead them to any new information to decipher your story. It feels like this wasn't written to make sense to anybody but yourself. Second-guessing the author doesn't make it challenging, it makes it arbitrary.
Given how many times the player is expected to rewind it would flow a *lot* better if you at least mapped everything to keyboard controls so we didn't have to constantly swap between the keyboard and mouse to work your interface.
