Newgrounds is strict with copyrighted stuff while Youtube isn't, but Newgrounds has better moderation than youtube (and it has porn, so that's a win.) Newgrounds has a better way of telling you what's inappropriate content, because it has more than all ages to 18+, unlike youtube.

for posting content, i like both! on youtube you can post pretty much anything (like shorter animations, speedpaints, animations with copyrighted songs), but newgrounds is very artist-centric and has alot more quality control (and a better interface imo). if i had to choose one though, i would probably choose youtube, because many animations i’ve made aren’t movie-worthy per se (due to having copyrighted music/samples or being too simple/loopy) and i could post art on the community tab, though my engagements could easily become superficial (the pain of getting tons of subs from a video of urs blowing up but then those subs just straightup DYING) and youtube’s also FULL of little kids so it’s honestly a tough choice. it depends on what kind of artist are you honestly

HOWEVER for consuming content i would definitely choose youtube. not a fan of the newgrounds video player, but it does top off youtube in terms of quality control and being able to also play games

TL;DR i prefer youtube but i can’t ignore newgrounds’s advantages

I still use youtube for shit posting or game recording but I would much rather come to Newgrounds since a lot of my values are shared with the platform and frankly it's better for networking with artists.

I use youtube a lot, by a wide margin, but I respect Newgrounds I whole lot more. It's one of the only places I have a monthly subscription purely for support.

I come here for quality content, as for youtube I go there for background noise while working. I've recently been trying to come to check the community side of NG more often as well, like now :D

but yea, hard to say which I prefer. I do want to prefer NG more tho.

youtube thinking animation is only for kids is shit, animation is an art form, and for everyone

I've been lurking on Newgrounds since I was a kid (starting WAY back in 1999/2000), but only recently signed up for the site. I crowdfunded five episodes of an animated project and started posting to YT, but noticed that we started getting less and less views with each update, due to how the site is changing. Posting to Newgrounds feels really good in comparison, as the community seems focused on harboring great talent and giving wonderful feedback. Looking forward to sharing more, soon.

Newgrounds has that unhinged, rugged feel to it that I like. The content rules here are straightforward and direct, and not a bunch of mess written by a group of couyons like youtube.

Youtube is too corporate for me, only reason why I go there nowadays is to listen to songs that are uploaded there and nowhere else.

Considering youtube's jumped from pop ups to straight up blocking vids entirely, it's kind of a no-brainer at this point.

NewGrounds for animated content. I know I haven't posted anything but considering I feel like I have more freedom here in general... yeah.

Newgrounds is the best website to gather people to watch your stuff (for animation only of course) and also we are far from a corrupted society that is YouTube.

Although if you want to commercialize your stuff even further, then you will have to knee on YouTube's foots sadly.

YouTube is sort of mandatory if you want your stuff to reach a mainstream audience--like, if I want my Dad to watch any new cartoons I make, it HAS to be uploaded on YouTube so he can easily watch it on his preferred method, being the TV app.

However, that is offset by an algorithm that basically requires the impossible from animators or literally anything else that takes time and effort to do--you need to upload every single day, possibly even multiple times a day, AND the videos need to be on the longer side, which is why the site now is mostly flooded with idiots sitting in front of their camera and just ranting on about their opinions of any topic in the world for 20 minutes to 2 HOURS straight, even if the thumbnail, video title or comment section answers the question posed much more succinctly.

The reason I latched onto Newgrounds in the first place back in 2018 was because my animations were consistently getting more views and especially more comments and feedback on what I could improve upon than I could ever hope to achieve on YouTube (unless I give up on the idea of making animations on YouTube and just make easy-to-edit gameplay videos, similar to OneyNG). Keep in mind that this was before Friday Night Funkin' existed and made NG somewhat popular with young teens again, and of course long before more "mainstream" websites to upload art to, like Twitter, ArtStation, DeviantArt and Reddit, collectively commit Hara-Kiri on themselves, forcing even more people to at least consider Newgrounds.

If you had asked me this back when I was 15 or 16, I would have said FlipNote Hatena is a better place to get noticed (at least by other aspiring artists) than YouTube, too. Algorithms in websites like YouTube make it too hard to stand out just by making good, honest content, you have to focus more on quantity and cynically gaming the system instead, often to the severe detriment of your mental health (or even physical health in the case of those Mukbang channels). It's the same reason you would see smaller websites like NG, Furaffinity and Mastodon draw a firm line in the sand against stuff like NFTs and AI-generated "content," while YouTube and its ilk are basically forcing this instant-gratification crap on its users whether they want to or not.

TL;DR You might have to at least re-upload your stuff on YouTube if you want normies to easily watch your stuff, but don't expect tons of views outside of your real-life family and friends (assuming you SPECIFICALLY remind them every time you upload a new video), especially if you do something like an animation channel, where there could be MONTHS or even YEARS between uploads.

Also, many recent changes to YouTube, specifically its crackdown on ad-blockers while also making the ads as irritating as possible, while ALSO making the ad-free YouTube Premium subscription absurdly priced for what little it does, have made it increasingly hard for me to really enjoy watching YouTube in general. It's like cable TV all over again. It will be interesting to see how much more unpleasant Google can make the YouTube watching experience be before it's no longer even relevant to ask if YouTube is worth it (or at least TikTok replaces YouTube in these forum questions). Similar to how, up until Elon Musk's takeover, people kept recommending I upload on Twitter to get more mainstream exposure, but now people tell me it's not worth it to upload on the site in general because it's dying.

Honestly just kind of depends. I use both fairly regularly, and I am hoping to turn Youtube/Streaming into something of a career, so I'm inclined to lean Youtube...but holy fuck are they frustrating. Rules enforced inconsistently, often completely unfair enforcement (Just this year I got a Community Guidelines warning for an unlisted video, in which I was playing TF2 with a friend and someone in the VC started firing off slurs. An unlisted video. That nobody else ever saw, in a situation I had literally no control over, got me a strike. I appealed it. I know it's bullshit that they "reviewed" it because in the timeframe between when it happened in the video, when I appealed and when I got the response? Total bot shit)

NewGrounds just feels like...more centered on the creator. Everyone has an equal chance it feels like. On Youtube? It can often feel like if you didn't already blowup 10 years ago you're just wasting your time

(Plus I wouldn't be surprised if one day I have my animation stolen and reacted to SSSniperWolf or whoever like what the fuck is the point trying on YT anymore)

Newgrounds till the day I die. This website is all about the artists and creators. That's what I love about it. It's so easy to get in touch with other artists and meet friends, and get your stuff seen cuz this site is run by people, not algorithms n shit. This is a one of a kind place that I genuinely love. Cuz on yt, even if you put a lot of effort in, it's more or less chance if something will get seen, especially if you're not posting daily. Which is virtually impossible to do with an art n animation-based channel.

It would be close for me, since yt allows for many video types that ng does not ("how to"s, gameplay vids, ytps and other shitpoasts, ect)

To add on, unless it's genuinely educational or something like Helluva Boss or the Amazing Digital Circus, I don't think I can sit down and watch most YouTube videos start to finish anymore. The whole platform is filled with nothing burgers now. You could argue NG is also filled with nothing burgers, but I disagree, because it's filled with stuff that is actually worth your time. You won't find shit like "DON'T CALL THE JOLLIBEE MASCOT AT 3 AM" here. On YouTube, it's now difficult to find fun and original videos like what Nigahiga did.

Don't get me started on moderation. It's so bad that because of it, I've seen (not saying this is true, this is just what brushed over me) accusations and arguments that YouTube is defending pedophiles, zoophiles, racism, and by what I've heard of recent events, cyberstalkers.

Newgrounds, especially after Youtube, started to hunt down adblockers that prevent ads from appearing on Videos, wasting people's time.
