holy cow that is hard
Good:
1.Story
2. Polish and detail
3. Original upgrade system
4. Depth, replay value, and strategy
Bad:
1. Graphics (yea, it's retro, but it's obsolete for a reason)
Ugly:
1. I didn't notice much difference in gameplay between "normal" and "insane" except number of lives...maybe tweak the difficulty down a bit
Insane = less lives, more punishment for dying, enemies with more health, faster enemy missiles, etc. etc.

Nice game, i like the upgrade system, the game play, the graphics and the music.
It's a little too hard for me though.
You should find a workaround for Chrome.
But, to all Chrome users : stop playing flash games with Chrome, it makes flash lag, it's the reason why i've stopped using it some time ago.
Its awesome.
Its Gradius, just 8-bit and you can shoot both ways.

It's really great, but I think that you should be able to upgrade previous things that cost less (p) things (whatever those are) when you get them, if there isn't a way to. Because I'd rather have increased fire rate than an extra life in some situations...
And there's also a few other flaws, like you can't move all that fast, i know you can upgrade it, but even with the upgrades.
Also 3 levels is not enough, not at all. There are lots of medals to get and I'm happy about that, but make this game more epic (literally) by adding more levels. That would do.
I had to mute the music so I can't say anything about that. Good game otherwise.
