Reviews for "Deterministic Dungeon"

Wait, is 3 the maximum number for each statue? Why not make it 5?

Aside from this minor complaint, this game is fantastic. A very clever take on the whole dungeon crawler theme. Plus, I love all the little nerd references.

PestoForce responds:

Yeah, just 3 max. The sequel I plan to have them increase power up to 16!!!!

the game is awesome i love everything about it. it seriously has the potential to be just like crack some day. here are my suggestions about it. 1: those facemask things that give you buffs i think should be a tier system based on lvls instead./. the reason i say this is because you could play the whole game and never get one or you could beat the game and get 15 the first run. their powers definitely add more strategy to the game. 2: idk if you or anyone else has noticed this but all it takes is a little practice on timing and you can for the most part choose whatever you would like. i was able to get to the first boss without fightiong anyone. not only that i am able on higher levels to equip weapons with a lot of 0's and always get the high number. some choices are harder than others for example when i have to choose an item i usually miss more often. i think a way to negate this would be to make the random selections more random instead of in 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4 make it 1.4.2.4.3.2.1,3. you know. 3: I HATE having so many shitty shields and helmet in my inventory can i please get rid of them somehow. i like that thing you can trade out for a scroll but i feel it takes to long having to go back and forth maybe adding the ability to do it more than once would be helpful either that or the simple ability to throw away items 4: more weapon and armor options please

PestoForce responds:

Thanks! Yes, I see the "crack" potential too, I like your suggestions! I'll keep them in mind for a more fleshed-out sequel!

I found an archer named ballsac... wtf....

PestoForce responds:

You found him! He's left handed.

I bothered to play through collecting all achievements and gear sans the weapons you get from golden orbs.

The difficulty in this game was my biggest issue. It starts off very hard, then suddenly becomes insultingly easy once you get the green totems. It almost felt like cheating. From then on, it's just a matter of getting your stats to the max, then waltzing up and taking down the final boss; and the final battle was anticlimactic, to say the least. For the future, I'd recommend making bosses immune to status like Freezing if it's going to be easy to inflict. I can see you not wanting to put a massive challenge at the end if you're limiting each playthrough to a single life, but I feel like having multiple lives coupled with a more difficult RPG aspect would do this game well. As it stands, the endgame felt repetitive and boring, and I ended up just skipping most fights in the last few worlds.

The idea of an RPG with no random chance is an interesting one, but this game just feels like a proof of concept. That being said, this game is well made and challenging at the start, so 3/5 stars feels fair.

PestoForce responds:

Thanks, I agree that the green totem needs some nerfing... will do so in the sequel!

Well, I beat it thanks to being lucky and getting a green totem. Without it, I'd never be equipped enough for the game to get past the 5th floor. There seems to be some balance issues though. Scrolls were practically useless. I don't think the final boss is beatable without that 20 damage scimitar and 3 green totems. The last few floors, bosses were doing 20 damage to me and I had like 85 hp. The witch menu was too troublesome to access, it'd do better if you had a merchant to get rid of the garbage equipments en masse.

Otherwise, it's a pretty good game and your efforts and care do show.

Thanks for the review!
