Reviews for "Deterministic Dungeon"

okay i am writing this only about 3 min in game, but i allready love it.
the RNG is really fun, the art is very nice and the music is also nice.
great work thank you for that

PestoForce responds:

My pleasure!

Oops...I broke it! I attacked when there were no enemies and the game froze...VERY fun though! I'm gonna refresh and get back to playing!

PestoForce responds:

Woops, if you can, please send me some more details about what led up to being able to attack with no enemies on screen!

I absolutely love this! But, why does it say it's saving if every time I leave and come back, I have to start all over again?

PestoForce responds:

It only resets if you die.

The RNG screwed with me, but I don't want to use this review to whine. I am going to try and outline some ways that the RNG could be improved. One thing that you've no doubt noticed is that with more options rotating through, the more control the player has over lining up their selection. The reverse is also true; for example, I used the slow spell twice on a boss, with the first use not hitting and the second lasting for one turn. Since it uses a yes/no system, the odds were 50/50 chance to actually trigger a scroll for even one turn. In order to make spells useful, it might be good to tweak their effectiveness or at least give more control over the RNG.

The other thing I found was strange was that magic seemed underwhelming; my RNG gave me no equipment but lots of scrolls, and I found that they did little damage or had little use. I don't know for sure if that changes once you are really deep in the dungeon, but I personally found it disappointing that 75% of my loot were spells that weren't helping me.

Otherwise, I love the game to death. It is really cool, looks great, and is really easy to get a grip on. I would still give it 5 stars for how brilliant it is.

PestoForce responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I agree that the 2 option choices are kinda lame and feel uncontrollable.

Very, very well done game. Love the idea behind it, and the execution is very nice - a good variety of items, monsters, bosses and surprises to not get boring. Kudos on something fresh in the world of dungeon crawlers!
I almost punched my computer during one playthrough, as I simply could not get anything but 0 on any of my rolls - but in this case I can't even blame RNGesus, 'cause it's all me :(

PestoForce responds:

Ha ha, yes! That was my intention, player blames himself instead of me! :-D
