Reviews for "Deal With the Devil"

As an experimental project it may be good, but...
I'll never understand the purpose and reason of adding medals to the "games" like this. I mean what skills are required to get them if the "game" is totally random? By getting those medals how can anybody say that is better in any way? Has better skills, mind power, reflexes? It is only a matter of the "game"'s mood if you get them or not. There is no strategy possible, especially when you try to get the "no deal" medal.
Medals should be allowed only in games that actually require some skills to get them.

Okay, so the art is fine, the game's probably sound to whatever creepypasta this was based off, but I just can't give it any credit. Every game I played, EVERY GAME, was the same. I'd lose a handful of soul here and there, but gain it back and work my way down to 3 games. Then, suddenly, I'd lose every bit of soul I had. That's not luck, that's being played. And I don't like being played.

I'm trying not to be a jerk about this, but if this machine was real, I'd get my soul back the old fashioned way: Taking a baseball bat to that smug face in the machine and showing the devil there's bigger things to fear than damnation.

It's unique and all, but it feels rigged and is just purely enraging. It was alright until I lost for the nth time, but my mood's plummeted since I played this so I'm so done here.

Great game capable of immersion of exactly what it wants to do. It's not supposed to be a fun, fair game. It's supposed to be a "Deal With the Devil". He's going to change it up, and the player has to look for hints to get it. It succeeds in everything it tries to do- though it didn't keep me. After losing twice, I grew frustrated, though still appreciated and accepted its value. I would have liked more encouragement to finish the game in the form of tips and help, because even the title cards are motivation to keep trying. The text is complete immersion into trying to get the audience to overcome the "devilish" addiction of winning a game.
You did great, but I would have liked more help to finish it. I noticed the hints with the subtle "bugs" of the game, but thinking unexpectedly was a great, but tiring concept to me. Is there any way you could send me a video of someone playing it perfectly? I would really love to see where you take the story.

Third time's a charm!
Lost my soul and won it all back.

I was thinking that the "Deal" had to do with the later games chances (more salvation and less damnation), but it appears to be random (unless it affects the deals, as well).
Meaning the less amount a deal is done, it's more likely to not be damned. and vice versa.
(Which if it's not that way, I think it would be more interesting if it was.)

Not using "Deal" - the only advantage it seems is getting a medal.

This worked fine a few days ago and now it's broken. What'd you do?

Now you can start the game up, you can get to the main screen, you can insert the coin and start the game, but you can't select any choices ever. It's just stuck like that.

You need to stop breaking your games, man. You make some quite good games, but then you go updating them and breaking them in the process. You did the same thing with Orange Roulette, where it worked quite well on just about any browsers, then in an update and suddenly it only works on Chrome.

Except now, with this game, it doesn't work in either Firefox or Chrome with that same behavior of not letting you choose any of the options. And it worked perfectly fine literally a few days ago. I can only assume you submitted some update in which you broke absolutely everything.

Look, you're creative and talented and you have shown that you can put out good games, but you really need to test things better before rolling out updates. And in particular not breaking things for people who don't use whatever magical OS + browser combination you happen to use.

It's broken in Firefox. It's broken in Chrome. I shouldn't have to play guess the magical browser to get this to work.

Matzerath responds:

Sorry about your frustration! Flash version is working on my end -- I did notice a little something I want to fix later today, but it's not gamebreaking. The HTML5 version is exhibiting some odd behavior, I'll look into it as well!
