Reviews for "Pain That Binds Us"

Even for a game made on 72-hours, this was notoriously bad.
The mesage it triers to get across is nice, but there's so little actually going on that it barely registers as a story.
There's barely any actual game going on here and the graphics are really bad, compare the quality of animation and spritework at play to, say, Death by ninja, done in a weekend.
I wouldn't say it's the worst thing ever, but certainly doesn't show the developer's effort or skills at all.

NO!

I really, really liked the graphics, especially the interstitial photographs, the story itself was cute (if very bare-bones) and the soundtrack was enjoyable. I wasn't such a big fan of the controls, to be honest; the cave section was really unclear, it felt a bit like the game had become Dance Dance Revolution. Also, just a personal preference, but I tend to hate when games require mashing one key on your keyboard for a while. Do with that what you will.

It was ultimately more of a walking simulator/interactive story than a true platformer, and the power-fading mechanic could have been more interesting, but for something you threw together in a couple of all-nighters it was a nice little story/game that could be something pretty special if you gave it some polish.

Incidentally, a few of these reviews read like the Daily Mail comments section. They also give zero credit for the fact that this whole game was developed in 72 hours, which is a bit like walking into a fish-and-chip restaurant and yelling at the owners for serving chips 'n' mushy peas instead of fondant potatoes with a pea & mint foam. Please don't take those too much to heart.

There was no gameplay worth mentioning. The main problem was the cave, no matter what I did there the screen dimmed to dark and I had to restart. If you want to send a message, it does not excuse you from making a game.
