Curious—Would Genesis/16-bit music count as "chiptune"? What about if a song switches between 8-bit and 16-bit?

Can my entry be fanart of a game (or of any media in general) or does it have to be original work? And am I allowed to post my entry prior to January 23rd or does it have to be on that day specifically?

It can be fan art of a game or other media. It's ideal to post it on Pixel Day, the further from pixel day it gets posted, the less it feels like a part of Pixel day.

If they are public domain / no copyright sprites, you can use them to make something to celebrate the day but it would be best to exclude it from the prize competition, which will be focused on original works.
