Reviews for "Rogue Fable II"

Good game so far. Don't have much to say here because I haven't played much and I am mostly posting to report my first crash. Was in a room (previously) full of mushrooms and opened a door with warning labels on it. Killed a few enemies from the room and the game semi-froze when the following events happened in a single turn: I was attacked by a Clockwork Archer (under the influence of a resistance potion), selected my darts, and another Clockwork Archer stepped onto a fire shroom. I say semi-froze because the music still played, I could select my different weapons, inspect tiles, enemies, and items, and look at the character sheet, but I couldn't move or attack anything. I took a screenshot of what it looks like a little after the crash: http://i.imgur.com/gE1TePJ.png

I can provide more details in a PM if necessary, if I remember any by then.

Thanks for the review and bug report. This seems to be a problem a few people are having. Every fire effect in the game seems to cause it for the people I've spoken to so far. I implemented a possible fix. Possible because this never ever happens for me. Let me know please if its worked for you. Its been melting my brain a bit because the fix worked for some people and didn't work for others. For a bug that I already can't see you can imagine my frustration lol. But yeah PM me about your experience. I'd like to get this fixed for everyone.

Well, the new update seems like a nice change, but it's buggy like a few of the others have said. In addition to bugs below, the Warrior's new Weapon Shield ability just doesnt work- the text "reflect" pops up 30% of the time, but I still take full damage and the projectile is not reflected in any way.

Stilll... It's a ton of fun and very replayable.

JustinWang123 responds:

Thanks for review. Reflection needs some work. The trouble is some projectiles like sparks and fire balls are handled specially (they destroy themselves on impact and create a fire or shock effect). I need to go back into the code and make sure they are also reflected.

Good game overall, beat it a few times, but not in any rewarded time limits so far. Just beat it as a Rogue, and I basically had to cheat. A couple of things: 1) The spot chance is WAY too high at later levels. With 20 points in Stealth and a stealth ring, the spot chance was above 25% on a regular basis. With a room full of enemies, that makes things quite difficult. 2) Damage from sneak attacks should go up. If an enemy survives a hit, your cover is blown for the entire room. Maybe +10% damage from stealth? x3 instead of x2 crit? 3) The stealth skills are nigh useless. Sneak doesn't have an obvious effect, enemies wake up from the sleep dart if there is even one other enemy who sees you, and Evade is far too expensive since, again, your cover is blown if you take more than a couple of actions in a crowded room. The minimap benefit might be useful if there were a plethora of invisible enemies, or if avoiding enemies were somehow rewarded, but it doesn't actually help with the majority of gameplay. 4) Ice bombs are very overpowered. They obstruct my movement, can be placed seemingly regardless of line of sight or distance, do a ton of damage, and I can't even trigger them at useful times to hit enemies. Being slowed also makes it twice as hard to step to a tile they won't hit. These points about the ice bombs become extra obvious with the Rogue, who relies on mobility a lot. 5) Extra Rogue skills could address some of these, like a power-attack similar skill (backstab?) that further multiplies damage against unwary targets, lock picking, trap evasion, things like that.

I see someone has been playing Pixel Dungeon with the reference to the Amulet of Yendor.

nice game, but a full screen mode would be nicer, maybe I'm just a noob, but I often die because I didn't see that my life was low.
It could be also nice if we could see instantly the ennmy you can hit, especially when we're using long distance weapon.
Some achievment would be also cool
Appart from this, the auto explore feature is nice, it avoid us clicking for moving all the time, especially usefull when you just want to go faster.
Music is great, and addapted to the environment.
The way every game mechanics are linked together is also nice, when you change of base character you immediatly see the map differently.
bye from France !
