Reviews for "Rogue Fable II"

I really like this game! Reminds me of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

I finally won. Is kind of hard, but well done. The two times I reached the farthest, I was playing warrior. I guess it was the mixture the most basic warrior attributes, melee and fortitude, mixed with the talents, using charge in combination with power strike, that saved me a lot of trouble. And its true that sometimes, due to the randomizer, youre kind of short in items. But if you manage to advance, and by saying that, I mean to understand the fact that sometimes there are fights you wont win, youll eventually reach a new stage with the required items.
I must admit that, the telepathy helmet, which marks the enemies on the map, was a lot of help in both times, but that isnt everything, using the rouge theres a talent that let you have the same option, but I still got killed. I think there might be some other talent you may add to the rouge to make it a stronger character.
The toughest stage for me, was the arcane tower. Man, I had more trouble in there than in the subsequent stages. Those ranged enemies were difficult to beat. The player needs to be careful to ALWAYS have something to throw.
I noticed that, maybe by the randomizer, there were a lot of closed rooms, and throughout the run I only found one key. It's cool that, it really gives you the feel of an unkown place, where you wont be able to access everywhere you want, but sometimes, watching the items on the side, while being unable to get em made me sad. It would be nice that the rouge could lockpick those doors.
I also tried the mages a little bit, I wish they were stronger, just a little, it would make the difference. Or to have another way to train the talents, rather than by finding a book, which, is still interesting in itself, because you will always be forced to create a new strategy depending on your run, but sometimes it is too tough for the mages. I was getting so amused with the necromancer combo of life pike and cannibalism, but I needed to make more damage. Maybe I'll be able to figure out another strategy for him.
Well, I guess I wrote a lot, but I really liked your game. Nothing really new, but a well mixture of nice things. I like the desing, very simple but catchy. You may also want to add a little story at the end, it would be very rewarding. I took me around three hours to beat it, lel.
The only thing I can really complain is a glitch, where out of nowhere in the middle of a battle, the game just froze. It was on the ninth level I think.
Thank you for the game!

Excellent, highly polished. Well thought out. I only wish I could get it on iOS.

Pretty good game. I think the retro/pixel art style gets a bit overused nowadays, but i think it really fits here. The gameplay, while a bit basic, was pretty engaging, especially having to choose whether to back off so that you could avoid getting hit, or attacking so that you can destroy your enemy as fast as possible. The exploration and wonder of what enemies are going to be around the next corner were pretty intense.

However, the music got tiring pretty fast. I'd prefer maybe one extra song or two, as to make it not feel as repetitive.
The different classes you could play as were pretty fun, however, it felt a bit weird playing as a necromancer who can't raise dead bodies. I realize that such a power might be a bit too strong, but why not make such an ability only usable via a scroll, a or a staff that breaks after let's say ten or fifteen uses?

In conclusion, this was a really great game. The sprites look nice but are a bit lacking in detail. The number of different playstyles was also really enjoyable, as it adds a lot of replayability.
Overall, a great game. I definitely know what i'll be playing on the school computers for the next few weeks ;)

Final Rating: 4/5

I think I'm in love with this game. I just can't stop playing it every now and then.
The only problems I have with it is:
It is extremely dependent on luck: No matter what class you play as, you will get screwed one way or another if you're not lucky and find some particular nice things and/or do NOT meet a huge group of enemies to move on. For example: You get halfway through only to teleport into a room filled with tough enemies that will kill you right away, or you crush everything right from the beginning only for the last levels to be filled with lava that you NEED to walk on to move on, and you don't have anything that protects you from fire, and then you get ambushed by fiends who lives in lava. And that is just a few examples.
The Rogue is pretty much useless and THE hardest class to finish the game as (has anyone even finished this game using rogue and focusing on stealth?). Unless I missed something, then stealth is almost useless since every enemy in a room will more often than not notice you if you attack one enemy unless you have maxed Stealth.
